The YIA Innovation Forum brings together some of New Zealand's legendary innovators to share insights and stories to a room full of innovation enthusiasts. The event happens annually in Tauranga, and 2015's Innovation Forum is happening August 7th.
It is a fantastic opportunity to hear from some of New Zealand's truly brilliant minds.
1. Barry Vercoe
Barry Vercoe was co-founder of MIT Media Laboratory and was a pioneer in the field of Digital Audio Processing. In 1992 he won the Computer World / Smithsonian Award in Media Arts and Entertainment, in 2004 gained the SEAMUS Lifetime Achievement Award, and in 2006 the World Academy of Science Distinguished Achievement Award.
Barry was involved with The Echo Nest as it's first investor; the Music Intelligence company being acquired by Spotify in 2014. He is also co-founder and director of One Laptop per Child Australia.
2. Jenene Crossan
Jenene Crossan has 20 years experience in Digital as a thought leader, influencer and entrepreneur. is the director of nzgirl.co.nz and bloggersclub.com Ltd, and CEO of Flossie.com Ltd.
She was a finalist for the Women of Influence Award 2014, Women of the Year 2014, New Zealand Marketer of the Year and the international Veuve Clicquot Award.
3. Professor Simon Fraser
Professor Simon Fraser has been involved with design at Fisher&Paykel and Porsche Design Studio, and was recently appointed Associate Dean (Research & Innovation) for Victoria University of Wellington's Faculty of Architecture and Design.
He has been involved in NZTE's Design Industry Taskforce, spent time on the Better by Design Advisory Board, worked with the NZ Product Accelerator, and is an Associate Director in the MedTech CoRE.
4. Wayne Munro
Wayne Munro has a PhD in Civil Engineering, and worked as a research scientist on projects focusing on the physical properties of wool fibres.
He developed the internet startup GlobalBrain, and is currently CTO of SLI Systems.
5. John Illingsworth
John Illingsworth has spent 40 years in senior roles in the fields of Civil Consultancy, Civil Contracting, Management, and Construction for the likes of Fletcher Challenge and Hume Industries.
He has been involved with the creation of multiple companies including OceaNZ and Spartan Consulting, and has recently been appointed to the Environment Court as a Deputy Commissioner.
6. Peter Tinholt
Peter Tinholt is the General Manager Asia Pacific for Taura Natural Ingredients; the company having recently been acquired by Frutarom.
Along with Tauranga, he has held executive roles at Mother Earth, Delmaine Fine Foods, and Cadbury Schweppes. Awards received include a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow, Rotary District 9330’s Outstanding Citizen of the Year Award, and Institute of Director’s Aspiring Director Award.
